We have decided to have a one sentence “Poem of the day”, authored by one of the team and presented at dinner. Yesterday’s author was Pati who remarked “The golden globe of the moon shines down to bless our first night in Morogoro.” Today’s is ”African Woman” by Anne:
“Hey, African woman in the long print dress, who taught you
to bend over and swish the dirt only to reveal more dirt, and whom will you
teach?”
We began our day with a breakfast devotion led by Eileen and
titled “How to Spend Your It.”
Afterwards we joined the Diocese staff in time to join in
with the morning devotions. We see quite
a bit of progress in the new church building in the past year. Our formal visit with Bishop Mameo and his
assistant, George Pindua, followed and the Bishop spoke about Diocese projects
and presented some possibilities for next year’s trip.
After some logistical issues concerning phones we went to
lunch with the Bishop and some of his staff. Asante sana (thank you very much)
Bishop Mameo, it was excellent. After
lunch we went to Mazimbu Hospital to meet with our old friends there and get
acquainted with our operation this year. Matron, the head nurse, gave us all a
tour of the facility which has had some modernization in the past year since
our visit. The Nursing Office really looks updated with new colors and bright,
shiny cabinets and new doors and windows.
Patients will begin coming tomorrow but Lance and Bill, the fundi babu’s
(technical grandfathers) already have an assignment or two.
We attended to a bit of shopping for needed supplies—paper
booklets for charting records, receipts books and, most important of all,
toilet paper. It seems Europeans have
different toilet habits than Tanzanians and we have to compensate for that!
Our favorite carver, Hilary, was waiting for us when we
arrived back at LJS. So the shopping
continued…
Monday ended with a planning session for tomorrow which will
have twelve of us at the hospital and five going to the woman’s dairy project
being operated by the Diocese.
