Arrival at Lutheran Junior Seminary

As word of our mission has spread to friends and family over the years, the team God assembles each year comes from many states, including Arkansas and Oklahoma.  After flying from different cities, part of the team met up in Washington DC, continuing on through Zurich to Dar es Salaam.  The rest of the team met in Minneapolis and arrived in Dar via Amsterdam.  After collecting our bags and changing dollars into shillings, we left the airport around 10:30 and were happy to fall into bed at our rooms at the Catholic Guest House in Dar.

Sunday morning found us grabbing a quick cup of tea or coffee before worship, which was in English instead of Swahili.  The music and rhythms of Africa flowed around us as we praised our God with our Tanzanian brothers and sisters.

The route from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro is one of the most dangerous stretches of road in the country—a two lane highway with vehicles passing each other constantly.  Our nerves survived the trip and we checked in to our home for the next two weeks at the Lutheran Junior Seminary, outside of Morogoro.  After the heat and humidity of Dar es Salaam, the greenness of Morogoro with its shadowed mountains in the background was a welcome sight.
